BrilliantlyMad's Mission Statement 2005:
BrilliantlyMad is a collective of thinkers, writers, artists, musicians, pranksters, clowns, and other talented souls. By chance, we followed the beats of the underground music scene to abandoned warehouses and dirty garages but it was fate that brought us together so we could come out and play. Some say our scene is dead but we are here to gently remind you that the party never ends.
Our interests lie in the artistic, musical, political, and spiritual realms of the world and that is what you will find within our pages. Our goals are to promote a philosophy built on love and our oneness with the universe and to promote positive lifestyle changes through education and awareness. We want to enhance people's life experiences and be a beacon of light in a world of much darkness. Since we want to help change our world for the better, we have carved out a little corner where we can build a voice by sharing ideas and expressing our minds. We want to perpetuate the good grooves that we have been blessed with, so please join us and share in our brilliance, share in our madness.
BrilliantlyMad...aren't we all?
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the wonderful world of BrilliantlyMad. For over seven years we have released positivity and beauty in the world by capturing creativity and assembling it into a fun and exciting format showcasing pictures, poetry, jokes, artwork, and other writings. Powerful thoughts have graced these pages with a more personal feeling bringing important issues to a confused and disoriented society.
The journey to BrilliantlyMad Issue 1 is finally complete. We have been putting this off since 1998 because we wanted to be prepared by making the largest ship we can before sailing off into uncharted waters. Now we are ready to go into the abyss where no other has gone before and we are ready to bring you along for the ride. You can dance if you want to and you can bring your friends along. Wherever we stop along the way is up to you.
In this issue we bring you the stepping-stones into the BrilliantlyMad world.
Follow us into the mind’s eye past the world around. Step into an experience that is beyond you. Learn from us as we learn from you. As judgment is left on the side, we hope you share with us your hopes and aspirations, your dreams and goals, your visions for a better world. Don’t give up on life. It’s awaiting around the corner from you.

El Fuego del SolDominican Republic
We had a great opportunity to explore this new venture in the Dominican Republic. We assisted in documenting the beginnings of El Fuego del Sol and experienced how the locals in the area live. Kevin Adair started this alternative energy eco village that is changing the way people can interact with the D.R. and Haiti by providing jobs and making sun ovens.
DEMFMemorial Day Weekend
For the past few years we have covered the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and captured the dancing and thrills of the participants. DEMF is an electronic music showcase held in Detroit each Memorial Day weekend since 2000. Always a great time in the open air amidst all the stages throughout the weekend.
Wonderland's Final YearSource Productions
Source productions throws it’s final Wonderland event (or so we thought until they brought it back in 2009). It’s time to let the past slip away so we can move onto better events for our community.

Drum & Bass Liberation Front1 through 3
Who can forget these wild parties over the past year if you went? We set up dungeons at the first two and had a great time challenging peoples perception. The Drum & Bass soldiers took over and represented this style that has kept the underground interested year after year.
The Manifesto
We, Those ambitious and bold enough to step forward and declare that we need more bread and more circuses from our nation.
We, Those restless and hungry to cling to life, to suck the marrow from it, and burn with understanding that time is short and there is much to do before we have to leave this place.
We, gathered together by our own will and intent, have created our Nation, the People's Republic of Delicious Food, for the good of humanity and the glorification of our own souls.
We hold in the highest regard a being's need to communicate and express themselves and find it imperative that no such expression should be subverted for any reason. If we cannot stand to have our views challenged, then we will never understand what we see.
We love and intend to create fantastic sounds and experiences, the likes of which have never been conceived of nor experienced by humanity. We reject the sentiment that there is nothing new under the sun. We reject cynicism.
We possess no land (yet), but claim all that is before us, above us, without us and within us as our country. The sovereignty of our state lies within the sovereignty of our selves. Like the Jews, we are an itinerant people, taking our culture with us wherever we go; homeless, but at home with each other.
We offer our art, our techniques, and our experiences to anyone who would like to involve themselves. Whether for hire, for fun, or for obligation, we will be ourselves. We possess not greed, but only the desire to be able to continue to do what we will, to liberate the dry and dying hearts of those who wish to step free of the ordinary.
We, the People, the Citizens of this Great Republic, declare ourselves united and autonomous. We have transcended the notion of love it or leave it. We are staying right where we are, and are affecting change from within.
"Religion is a way of living in which the totality, the beautiful wealth inside, is involved every moment in every relationship. The manipulation of sound in speech, the mysterious process of breathing, the sense organs of looking, listening, touching are involved. You see the interrelatedness of all the energies of the cosmos in your own body, the relationships among the earth, the water, the sky."
Vimala Thakar from "The Eloquence of Living"

the seemingly unobtainable holy grail of existence, the fountain of youth for our mind and soul. It is something that always seems just beyond the reach of our understanding. I would dare to challenge this paradigm by paralleling it to mathematics. Just like in fractal geometry, the infinitely complex mesh of life and the human psyche is governed by a simple equation that answers what we seek. It's always been hidden in plain sight, we've just covered it with trite superficial materialism, yet we always seem drawn back to it without even realizing it.

Love is the Bridge to Reality
Midwest's PLUR
It's about the PEACE. Escaping to a place where we can all put the drama aside and move our bodies to the beat, where we are free to believe, when a kikin vibe fills our souls.
It's about the LOVE. Showing it through a hug, kiss, a sticker...Love for the music. Love for each other. Love for ourselves. No place on Earth can so much positive energy be released and absorbed.
It's about UNITY. Coming together as one. Seeing through all our differences, focusing on similarities, we are all in this together.
It's about RESPECT. The ability to expand our minds for the better. Respect for each other, each others' choices. Respect for ourselves, our belongings and surroundings, we know how it's done.
Remember: It's all what we make it! Support our scene, Love each other, come together and enjoy every minute of it! Thank You for coming out, You are Loved.
Keep it real, stay true to OUR scene.
Written by Kae

A scene built on unity, subculture, and love,
replaced by the handshake was a warm embracing hug.
I was amazed by this scene, taken for a ride by the beat,
disregarded reality, to glide on my feet.
It was a land like no other, like a trip to outer space.
Sweet sounds of House music, and that dope Drum and Bass.
All the kids I once knew, all vanished into air.
Or moved on with their lives, left the scene with no care.
I still stare into the speakers every weekend I can
surrounded by superficial label whores that took over this land.
I wish kids would come down and the bullshit would stop.
Quit trying to stab your homies just to get to the "top".
No love for one another, the music is no longer heard,
now replaced by greed, and satisfying ones own needs.
For all that feel my vibe, and are on the same wave,
I'll see you all by the speakers on a much better day......
(rave, for the love, the music, the vibe, nothing else......)
